Maia Barkaia

Maia Barkaia cooperates with Center for Social Sciences since 2010; she is currently pursuing an international Ph.D in Gender Studies from CSS, TSU. Her current research focuses on identifying the main factors shaping students' attitudes towards gender empowerment in Georgia and India.
In 2008 she completed her B.A. in Oriental Studies from Institute of Practical Oriental Studies. In 2010 she obtained her Master's degree in Modern Indian History from Jawaharlal Nehru University. In 2011 she worked as a research intern at Centre for Social Research in India. She has contributed to some research projects on Prenatal Sex Selective Abortions, Policy Convergence for Women Workers (ILO project), Safe Cities and Surrogate Motherhood.
Her research interests include Gender and Religion, Gender and Subalternity, Intersections of different Identities among Students.
